Dragon Hugs

Hello my lovelies I hope you are all fine and dandy and having a lovely week, did you all enjoy the Halloween weekend Phil and I went out for a quiet drink which was lovely.

Still no Christmas cards made this week and I am off to the NEC this Thursday for the craft fair with my lovely Mom in Law we have a great day when we go although it’s extremely painful for me physically and financially lol(I spend a fortune there eeekkk)are any of you going? Then we are back there next Thursday for the Christmas gift fair so I will just be recovering from the Craft fair then have to recover all over again ( oh well you have to do these things I guess)
So it’s pretty obvious if I’m posting that I have a card to show so I will get straight to it. I was asked to make it by a family friend for her Grandson who will be 6 she said he loves dinosaurs and dragons so I instantly knew what image to use (good old Mo has an image for every occasion)(didn’t mean old as in age Old either lol)

Anyway the card is 8x8” you know I love making this size you have so much room to play with the papers are from Pixel Scrapper and have been inked with fired brick and faded jeans DI then matted onto each other

The image is called Dragon hugs by Mo Manning (of course) and I coloured it using polychromo pencils, I really enjoyed colouring this image even though I chose to colour the dragon with red which is a colour I’m not too keen on using as I can never blend it right especially when I use my Pro Markers but this was a dream. I think it helped that I used a couple of shade of orange and yellow too. Then I took a mask of the image and using brown and blue shades of DI, I stippled  the background using stencil brushes, I love using this technique. Sometimes it can look as though you have gone way to dark because of the whiteness of the mask but once you remove the mask and the coloured image is there you realise there isn’t too much colour at all of course always go lightly you can add more if needed but if you do add to much it could ruin your whole image(and ya wouldn’t want that would ya)

Once the background was done I cut the image out the edged with fired brick you all know I hate white edges. Then it was time to embellish, so you have a card with a little knight and his dragon how and what do you use to embellish it. I didn’t want to go down the usual root of adding button although is nothing wrong with adding buttons but I wanted it to be along the theme so after a bit of head scratching (I’m sure Phil thought I had nits lol) I came up with the shield and sword idea, tada!!! I found a few freebie line art images I could use for a template so I printed them out and then set to work. I used a rangers ink pen that has clear ink in it coloured in 2 quarters of the shield the sprinkled with blue embossing powder and heated then did the same with the other quarters this time in red. Then I got my clear ink pad and ran it around all the edges of the shield then added silver embossing powder and heated to give metal looking edge.

I used the same silver on the sword and also a copper colour for the handle part then glued it onto the shield. I added 3d foam to the back of the shield and fixed to the card along with the greeting and that was the front sorted.

For the insert it was the usual I took some of the papers I had used on the front and also a white mat then brought the image across making it smaller so it fit into the corner of each side and flipping it so they mirrored each other the added a sentiment to the left page and a lovely verse to the right.

And so there you have my card for you today I hope you like it. Enjoy th rest of your week whatever you’re up to and I will see you soon. I’ll leave you with another look at the super adorable image and a list of challenges I would like to enter it into
